Who was who in Mecklenburg - Westpomerania?

Who was who in Mecklenburg - Westpomerania is an encyclopedia written by Grete Grewolls. On over 480 pages 4000 biographies of more (or less) famous people are presented. The book was published by Edition Temmen (Bremen) in German. On our homepage we present the index of this book.
We thank Mrs. Grewolls (Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg - Vorpommern) for providing the index of her book.

Military History in Mecklenburg

Grenadier The fate of a lot of Mecklenburg inhabitants was related with the military. For instance my greatgrandfather and my grandfather served in the well know Grenadier Regiment No. 89.
On the water-clour from Erna Keubke you see the Schwerin Castle Guard of the Grandduke Mecklenburg Grenadier Regiment No. 89 around 1900. The military historian Dr. Klaus-Ulrich Keubke provided for the MFP an article about Major Helmuth von Moltke. His fate is an example for a many Mecklenburg inhabitants, who had to fight in the Mecklenburg - Schwerin Kontingent - Regiment for Napoleon.

Dr. Klaus-Ulrich Keubke is able to help in family-history questions as a specialist of the Mecklenburg military history. Unfortunately he is only reachable via snail mail:

Important are also other publications of the studio Keubke: among pictures, water-colours, ... also a series of books about Mecklenburg history is published.

Ancestors of Lenin in Mecklenburg

MFP-Member Günter Kruse from Bayreuth follows an interesting field of research. He is looking for ancestors from Lenin who lived in Mecklenburg. About the results of his research the local TV station NDR made a film for the series "Zeitreise" (13.01.08, 19:30 - 20:00). It was filmed in Rehna, Kalkhorst, Rostock, Parchim, Schwerin; three ancestors were described:

  • Johann Granzin, hanseatic salesmen Lübeck in the 16. century, born in Parchim,
  • Johann Cyriacus Höfer, pastor in Kalkhorst in the 17. century and
  • Johann Jürgen Grosschopff (1669-1717), miller from Rehna.
The research of the Ancestors List required a comprehensive and partly extremly difficult research. We than Mr. Kruse (guenter_kruse@gmx.de) for the publication of his results on our homepage.
